Matsuda, the luxury Japanese eyewear brand has installed their first sunglass boutique and historical retrospective inside our Arts District location, now open through the month of September in downtown Los Angeles. It's only installed for a month, but if you can't visit in person, you can always check out our curated assortment online.

The space includes a historical retrospective and curated assortment of new and heritage designs, and is the first retail expression from the Matsuda brand in 15 years. Since relauching several years ago, the company is once again working with members of the original creative and production teams.

All MATSUDA creations are handcrafted in Japan, with every step of the production process overseen by a master craftsman. There are more than 250 steps necessary to complete each pair, and all are made in small batches of 100 or less. Each pair is considered a work of art.

Wittmore is honored to work with the Matsuda team on this exclusive showcase. We are excited to reintroduce the brand to those that remember the brand their 80's and 90's heyday, and also explain to a new generation about what makes each pair so special, along with Matsuda's place within art, fashion, and pop culture history.

MATSUDA utilizes precious metals including one of the highest quality Titanium levels available, 24ct gold and sterling silver plating. Cotton-based Japanese acetate, which is softer and more adjustable, yields greater coloring in a range of signature hues. Hand engraved filigree on temples and eye wires lend a subtle and intricate distinction. Proprietary 5-barrel pin hinges, and unique pince-nez style nose pads keep each pair in place effortlessly. Lenses feature 8-layer polarized or gradient colors in both mineral glass and CR39, along with scratch resistant, anti reflective coatings. There truly is no comparison.
